Good morning, my soon-to-be turkey eaters! Is everyone excited for the holiday? I am! Sleeping late and eating large amounts of food are two of the things I do best.
I’m feeling better, by the way. MUCH better.
BTW thanks to those of you who watched The Science of Battlestar Galactica audiobook trailer and for your kind words. It got a few hits and hopefully it will turn some heads!
I recently had a new client who has never been involved in voiceover production. They didn’t understand the process, the rate structure, or how to format a script. I had to do some serious education while being diplomatic at the same time. I asked for a deposit and then I did the VO and sent the sound files. After I got the list of retakes, I sent them the sound files after I got the balance of the fee. It took some time for things to get straightened out on their end at the beginning but once they understood the process, it went just fine.
I wish things went as smoothly with all of my new clients! I haven’t had that many problems over the years, though I’ve heard some real horror stories from my colleagues. Care to share?
TIP OF THE WEEK: Think back to your very first project and how confusing it was. When you’re working with someone who is new to the industry, it’s very easy to be impatient, jaded, cynical, etc. Remember that at one point you were a newbie, too!
QUOTE OF THE WEEK: I don’t think corporations have heart or soul and ultimately it rubs off on the product. Peter Guber
STUFF!: I saw an amazing film last week: “Get Low”, starring Robert Duvall, Sissy Spacek, and Bill Murray. It’s about a hermit who wants his funeral before he dies. It’s funny, poignant, and beautifully shot. Go rent it!
