Hello and Happy Ash Wednesday, Eastern Orthodox Lent, and Daylight Savings Time! I knew my planner was good for something…
Normally I do a review of the Oscars, but I was pretty tired and I only watched the first half or so then I crashed. I got 13 out of 24 right! And Ellen Degeneres was pretty damn funny.
POLL RESULTS!
The answer to the question, “Your voice is…” is, it is BOTH a product AND a service. Thanks to everyone who participated!
One of my favorite sayings is, “You can’t talk your way out of problems you have behaved yourself into.” People try to do this all the time. “I’ll show up on time”. “I’ll quit drinking.” “I’ll stop hitting you.” And more often than not, the behavior continues.
NFL analyst Herman Edwards once said, “You are a collection of your choices.” So is your voiceover career. And your marriage. And all of your relationships, both professional and personal.
Your behavior is based on your day to day, moment to moment choices. All too often people behave themselves into failure. Lets try something different, shall we? Let’s behave ourselves into success!
How can you behave yourself into success? What kind of choices can you make to improve your voiceover career?
TIP OF THE WEEK: In Rich Dad, Poor Dad, Robert Kiyosaki extols the virtues of of making decisions based on Financial Intelligence rather than Emotional Intelligence. You know, thinking with your head instead of your heart or other parts of your anatomy?
Treat your voiceover career like a business. Make business decisions based on Financial Intelligence. Specifically your coaching, your demos, your website, and your marketing. One of the biggest mistakes I see aspiring voice talents make is diving in before they are ready. What does “ready” mean? To me, that means being coached effectively, having quality demos, a good recording space with the proper equipment, a brand, and most importantly, a plan.
If you’re not ready to set yourself up for success either due to lack of training, resources, and/or time, wait! Be patient.
QUOTE OF THE WEEK:
STUFF!: I finally got around to seeing “Now You See Me”. Thud.
