Good morning and Happy Post-Valentine’s Day, Presidents Day and soon-to-be Flag Day!
GKN ANNOUNCEMENT!!!: The official Voiceover Cafe Podcast website is up! www.voiceovercafe.org. Trish and Terry were guests on the East West Audio Body Shop this past weekend and they were fantastic! A big thanks to Dan Lenard and George Whittam for having them on as guests.
I had the best Valentine’s Day ever! Why? Because I spent the morning at my niece Asha’s preschool Valentine’s Day Party!!!
Dude, it was surreal. The chairs were tiny (like, half a butt-cheek tiny). We did the Pledge of Allegiance, played with blocks, rode bikes in the gym, did Alphabet Bingo (BTW everybody wins, which is bullcrap!), had snack time (that was my favorite part), and a certain someone volunteered to read the story during story-time. And yes, I resisted the temptation to tell the parents I’m an audio book narrator!
The most interesting part of the day is when the teacher explained to us the concept of having a bucket. I looked around like, oh cool, we’re gonna make sand castles? Not so much.
She has taught the children that everyone has a metaphorical bucket. When the bucket is full, they’re happy. When the bucket is empty, they’re sad. If you notice that someone has an empty bucket, you should help them fill it up. How? By being nice to them, helping them, etc. That makes you a Bucket Filler! If you’re mean or rude or not being helpful, that makes you a Bucket Dipper.
I love this concept! It reminds me of the “Emotional Bank Account” concept of Stephen Covey, of which I am a huge proponent.
TIP OF THE WEEK: Like the title of the blog says, everything you need know about voiceovers you learned in Preschool. Learn the rules, have fun while you’re learning & living, and be a Bucket Filler, not a Bucket Dipper!
QUOTE OF THE WEEK: He attacked everything in life with a mix of extraordinary genius and naive incompetence, and it was often difficult to tell which was which. Douglas Adams
STUFF!: I saw The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel last week. If you hate brilliant British actors at their finest in a gorgeous setting, then stay the hell away from this one!
