Voiceovers and the Audio Publishers Association Conference – The GKN Weekly Update 6/2/15

I love narrating audio books.

I narrate audio books as part of a balanced breakfast professionally and for the love of it personally. My love for it never wanes, but there are easier and more lucrative genres of voice acting out there. When it comes to the path of least resistance in advancing my voiceover career, audio books often falls to the wayside, sadly.

However, my love of narrating audio books always gets a jolt whenever I attend the Audio Publisher Association Conference.

I had the pleasure of going again last week at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City. It’s a chance to learn more about the craft of audio book narration, current trends, do some networking, and catch up with old friends.

I enjoyed every seminar I went to! The panelists were both fun and informative. There was quite a bit of focus on marketing (which y’all know I’m a sucker for) and as always my favorite seminar was the Listening Lounge, hosted by everyone’s favorite roast master Johnny Heller.

I went not only as an audio book narrator but also as a reporter! The fantastic John Florian of Voice Over Xtra tasked me with writing an article about my experience there. You’ll see it sometime this week.

TIP OF THE WEEK

What did I learn at APAC this year? I learned that if you want to be a successful audio book narrator you have to grab it with both hands and work VERY hard at it. You must have both talent and stamina. You must have an understanding of the industry. You must have a plan. You must execute relentlessly. And like famous author and APAC panelist Robyn Carr said, you must be nice!

NEWS AND NOTES!

I was a guest on the Mike Lenz Voice podcast! Click here to check it out.
